How to create an AMP email campaign

Modified on Wed, 17 Apr at 1:00 AM

AMP stands for 'Accelerated Mobile Pages', a framework initially launched by 'Google LLC' in 2016 as an open-sourced library to help publishers quickly load webpages on the mobile platform.

AMP for email allows marketers to embed interactive AMP elements like carousels, accordions, confirmation forms, purchase buttons etc. within emails and thus obviate the need to redirect recipients to a new tab or a website.

It enables organizations to create fast-loading, real-time, dynamic and interactive campaigns that provide a much more personalized user experience than traditional mails.

For brands, it means that users can perform important actions (directly within emails rather than going off to a landing page) such as RSVP to events, take part in surveys, verify email addresses, browse online catalogs of products and much more.

In essence, customers can interact and act inside an email campaign that leverages the AMP technology. In this article you will learn how to use the AMP HTML feature to design email campaigns in NotifyVisitors.

Prerequisites

There exist two prerequisites that you’ll need to fulfill in order to use the AMP HTML feature viz.

  1. You need to have an AMP verified sender email ID.
  • That is to say, you will have to register for 'AMP approval' from email clients.
  1. You will need to have an AMP ready HTML.

Design campaigns using the AMP HTML feature

Follow the undermentioned step-by-step procedure to design campaigns using the AMP HTML feature.

  1. Navigate to Campaigns > Create Campaign > Email.

  1. Fill in the input fields with the requisite information and configure settings within the 'Recipients' stage. Then, click on the button titled 'Continue To Content'.
  2. Within the next stage i.e. the 'Content' section, you'll notice that there exist 'four' distinct options to design your email campaign's content, one of which will be the 'AMP HTML' option. Kindly click on the same.

  1. Once you click on the 'AMP HTML' option, an 'AMP HTML Code Editor' will appear within the email campaign configuration frame, wherein you can either type in or paste an AMP HTML code (created or written elsewhere i.e. in some other code editor).

Note

AMP emails may not display properly on all devices or email clients. In order to ensure consistent delivery, it's mandatory to include a fallback HTML email. To do so, simply select the 'HTML Code Editor' tab and create your HTML email. This ensures that even if the recipient's email client doesn't support AMP,  they'll still be able to receive and view your message.

  1. In case you intend to check the code for any errors or verify its syntactic accuracy, then you may click on the button titled 'Validate HTML' (screenshot provided below), and upon doing so, a new pop-up listing the step-by-step procedure to test the code for any flaws or bugs, would appear on-screen.

There exist a few other options in the same bar where the 'Validate HTML' option is present, namely:

  • Save: Allows you to save your email template.
  • Choose Token: Through this particular option, you can include various user tokens such as Name, Location, Product Preferences, Traffic Source, Device, System etc. Click here to learn more.
  • Send Test Email: This option enables you to check your AMP templates by means of dispatching test emails.
  • Unsubscribe Link: You can add an unsubscribe tag or link within your email template via this specific option.
  • View In Browser Link: Adds a mirror link that enables one to view the email template in the web browser application installed on the system or device.
  1. Once you have confirmed that your code is impeccable, you may want to preview its output. You can do so by clicking on the tab titled 'Preview Template' (screenshot provided below).

  1. Upon checking the preview, in case you are satisfied with how your email visually appears and functionally performs, simply click on the 'Save' button and subsequently on the 'Back To Content' button so as to return back to the 'Content' stage of your email campaign configuration.

Note

If at this point i.e. after returning back to the 'Content' stage, for some reason you wish to edit the campaign, then simply click on the 'Edit Content' option from the dropdown present next to the 'AMP HTML' preview tab as illustrated in the GIF provided below.

  1. From here onwards, continue configuring your email campaign following the process described in the article titled 'How to create an email broadcast campaign'.

Note

You can view the output of the AMP HTML source code that was used to design the email campaign, within the campaign's analytics report under the 'Campaign Info' tab. Click here to learn how to check an email campaign’s analytics report.

This is how you can design fast-loading, real-time, dynamic and interactive email campaigns using the AMP HTML feature in NotifyVisitors and thereby enhance customer engagement, sales and revenue.
